2026-27 Entrance Assignments

DEADLINE: All interested students (Year 10, Year 11, Year 12) are required to complete and submit both parts (Physics and Maths) of Assignment 01 by 23:59hrs (BST) Thursday 1st October 2026.

We do not admit students who only complete one part of the assignment.

To register as a Year 13 you need to have completed the Year 12 COMPOS programme. We do not accept new-to-the-programme Year 13 students, but we will accept new students to Year 13 of the COMPOS Follow-along programme. Year 13 students transferring from the Year 12 COMPOS programme should submit assignment 01 by 23:59hrs (BST) Sunday 13th September 2026.

Assignments will be marked. In the past, the passing score was >50% on both the physics and maths parts of the assignment. We cannot anticipate this year's passing score as it depends on the number of entries.

How do I complete the assignments?

Step 1: Click on the two assignments above for your year group to download the files and, either, print them out or open them on your device.
Step 2: Read through the files thoroughly and look up any links or additional information mentioned in the text (if you need to).
Step 3: Get some paper and a pen, or an e-note app, and start trying to solve the problems. Make sure you put the problem number in the margin and show all your workings. We require handwritten submissions.
The assignment is not supposed to be used like a worksheet or exam paper, it's like a chapter from a textbook. Do not try and write the solutions on the assignment itself.
Your work should look something like this:

Step 4: Repeat Step 3 until you have done as many problems as you can.
Step 5: Write your full name and COMPOS ID on the top of the first page of your solutions.
Step 6: Take photos or screengrabs of your solutions to each individual problem.
Step 7: Upload the correct photo/image to our Google Classroom. (The Google Classrooms will be opened for submissions about 2 weeks before the deadline.)
All the information about precisely how to upload your solutions will be emailed to you nearer to the deadline. It is straightforward and nearly 2,000 people managed it without any problems last year so please don't worry.
